Balzan has sung in the most important theaters of her native Venezuela, like the impressive Teresa Carreño Theater in Caracas, the Municipal Theater of Caracas, Teatro Baralt of Maracaibo, among others. Internationally Balzan has performed in countries like Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Honduras, Spain and the United States of America.
Adriana has portrayed the role of Rosina in Mozart’s “La finta semplice” at the Teresa Carreño Theater, for this performance the newspaper “El Nacional” defined her voice as an “exceptionally beautiful instrument of wonderful grace and vocal quality”.
In the same theater she performed the role of Zerlina in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”. “El Universal” wrote: “We have to largely applaud this young lady’s talent who is a future luminary of the Venezuelan opera output, beautiful timbre, vocal power y interpretative quality”. Her debut in this famous theater, where she also portrayed the role of Sussana in “Le nozze di Figaro” as well as Bianca in Puccini’s “La Rondine” was when she was 21, as the Page in Verdi’s “Rigoletto”. Balzan has also sung the roles of the Bat and the Chair in Ravel’s “L’enfant et les Sortileges” at the Ateneo Theater in Caracas.
In oratorio she has performed Bach’s St. John’s Passion, Mass in B minor and the Magnificat, in addition to Handel’s Messiah with such directors as Helmuth Rilling.
Adriana Balzan made her musical studies at the Simon Bolivar Conservatoty in Caracas. Her voice teachers have included William Alvarado, Noemi Lugo, Margot Pares-Reyna and Sara Catherine.
She has participated in Master classes with Licia Albanese, Jane Marsh (Opera Master Series, Marymount Manhattan College, New York 2003), Manuel Hernández Silva, Jean Paul Fouchecourt, Isabel Palacios, Eva Oltivanyi, Ingeborg Danz, Almut Eckels and most recently Enrique Ricci.
Most recently the Venezuelan soprano made her zarzuela debut in the United States as Marola in Sorozabal’s “La Tabernera del Puerto” and “Antologia de la Zarzuela” presented by Zarzuela Di Si, at the Bolivarian Hall of the Embassy of Venezuela, as well as recent performances as Marola for Zarzuela Di Si in the same venue. She was also a featured soloist at a concert at the Russian Cultural Center presented by Opera Camerata. She resently added de role of Duchess Carolina in Luisa Fernanda for Zarzuela Di Si,"sung exquisitely with haughty, coquettish sophistication". Her next engagement will be in Lima, Peru where she will interpret the role of "La Marquesita" in "El Barberillo de Lavapies" as well as singing in a Gala in honor of Giacomo Puccini. |
